Centre earns ₹377 cr from scrap disposal, frees 130 lakh sq ft office space under cleanliness drive
New Delhi: The Centre has generated ₹377 crore in revenue and freed up over 130 lakh square feet of office space through its ongoing Special Campaign 5.0, focused on cleanliness and administrative efficiency, the government said in a statement on Friday.

The month-long initiative, running from October 2 to 31 under the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), aims to promote a culture of cleanliness and streamline governance.
Its progress was reviewed by DARPG Secretary V. Srinivas during the eighth meeting of nodal officers, which saw participation from over 200 senior officials representing 84 ministries and departments.
As of October 24, the campaign has covered 4.95 lakh sites, cleared 7.25 lakh files, resolved 5.45 lakh public grievances, and earned ₹377.8 crore through scrap disposal.
The effort has also released 130.54 lakh sq ft of office space for productive use, according to the Personnel Ministry.
Among the standout initiatives, the Ministry of Railways’ Amrit Samvaad has been gathering passenger feedback to improve services, while the Department of Posts’ Dak Chaupals have facilitated citizen engagement and awareness on postal services, especially across the North East.
Other notable practices include the Cleanliness Challenge by the National Highways Authority of India to maintain hygiene at toll plaza toilets, and an innovative e-waste transformation project by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, which turns discarded materials into 3D models of drones, tractors, and cultivators.
With one week left in the campaign, ministries have been urged to maintain the momentum and intensify efforts to ensure full implementation by October 31, 2025.
The government said the initiative continues to reinforce “cleanliness, efficiency, and accountability” in public administration and marks a step toward “maximum governance, minimum government.”
