Excise policy case: Delhi court extends BRS leader K Kavitha's judicial custody to April 23

New Delhi/IBNS: The Delhi Rouse Avenue court on Monday sent Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha to judicial custody till April 23 in the excise policy case, media reports said.

Kavitha, the daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister and BRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao, was brought before the court on Monday.

She was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 15. The BRS leader was in Delhi's Tihar jail.

Last week, Kavitha was also taken into custody by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a money laundering case linked to the Delhi liquor policy case.

Kavitha’s involvement in the case came to light after the ED arrested Hyderabad-based businessman Arun Ramchandran Pillai on March 9 last year.

The ED said Pillai had confessed to representing Kavitha’s interests in the excise policy case.

The ED, which is probing the alleged liquor scam committed by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), arrested Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal triggering the Opposition to accuse the country's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of using central probe agencies to cripple the Opposition ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

Two other erstwhile ministers and AAP leaders- Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh were also arrested in the same case.
