Golden Temple welcomes global devotees amidst biting cold wave

Despite the onset of a severe cold wave and enveloping dense fog, the Golden Temple stood as a beacon of hope and devotion as thousands of tourists and pilgrims from around the globe flocked to the sacred shrine to usher in the New Year.

Among the notable attendees was SAD Member of Parliament Harsimrat Kaur Badal, who joined countless other devotees in paying obeisance at the revered gurdwara. The shrine witnessed a significant influx of visitors during the night hours, as many preferred to commence the New Year with prayers and spiritual reflection.

In a slight departure from tradition, former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal chose to visit the Golden Temple on Wednesday morning rather than the customary dawn of January 1st. His presence underscored the continued importance of the shrine as a center for cultural and religious observance.

The warmth of the occasion was evident as international families, including a Russian family with six children, made their way to the temple. Residing at the NRI Sarai managed by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), Yan, a long-time devotee, shared, “My family has been celebrating the New Year at the Golden Temple for several years. It has become a cherished tradition for us.”

For Arijit from Delhi, the Golden Temple offers more than just a place of worship. “Visiting the shrine brings me inner peace and a profound sense of devotion,” he remarked, highlighting the temple’s role in providing spiritual solace.

Similar sentiments were echoed by Savitri Singh from Malaysia and Loveleen Multani, a businesswoman from Bengaluru, both of whom attended the celebrations with their families. Their participation underscores the universal appeal of the Golden Temple as a place where people from diverse backgrounds come together to celebrate and seek blessings for the year ahead.

As the fog lifted and the chill of winter persisted, the Golden Temple remained a vibrant hub of faith and festivity, reflecting the enduring spirit of devotion that transcends weather and time.
