New Delhi/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has mourned the demise of Bibek Debroy, the chairman of Economic Advisory Council to the PM, who passed away at the age of 69.
In an X post, the Prime Minister wrote, "Dr. Bibek Debroy Ji was a towering scholar, well-versed in diverse domains like economics, history, culture, politics, spirituality and more. Through his works, he left an indelible mark on India’s intellectual landscape.
"Beyond his contributions to public policy, he enjoyed working on our ancient texts, making them accessible to the youth."

About Bibek Debroy
Debroy, an Indian economist, was also chairman of the Finance Ministry's 'Expert Committee for Infrastructure Classification and Financing Framework for Amrit Kaal'.
A Padma Shri awardee, Debroy remained the chancellor of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Pune from June to September, 2024.
The economist also served as a member of the NITI Aayog from its inception in January 2015 till June 2019.
In 2016, the US-India Business Summit awarded Debroy the Lifetime Achievement Award.
The similar award was conferred to him by the Australia India Chamber of Commerce in 2022.
He was conferred Insolvency Law Academy Emeritus Fellowship in February 2024.
