'If classmates become rapists, then whom are to be blamed?': TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee's bizarre remark on Kolkata rape case
Kolkata/IBNS: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee has passed a bizarre remark while responding to the alleged rape of a 24-year-old law student by a ruling party functionary on the campus of a law college in Kolkata.

Banerjee, who is known for controversial remarks, said, "Nothing will change until the mentality of people changes. The change can't be brought through law or police. We need to bring a change in mentality. Nothing can be more saddening if a student rapes his classmate. It's pathetic."
When asked about security, the parliamentarian said, "How can police be posted inside an education institution for security? Classmates, who should provide security inside the campus, are raping! Then who should be blamed?"
The law student was allegedly raped on the South Calcutta Law College campus in Kolkata's Kasba area on Wednesday between 7:30 pm and 8:50 pm by Monojit Mishra, a 31-year-old alumni and Trinamool Congress functionary, who is now a practising lawyer - and two current students.
The two other accused have been identified as 19-year-old Zaib Ahmed and 20-year-old Pramit Mukhopadhyay. All three have been arrested.
The college security guard- who has been identified as 55-year-old Pinaki Banerjee- was on Saturday nabbed marking the fourth arrest in the case.
Monojit Mishra is a member of the TMC's student wing, and the BJP has shared photographs of him with senior members of the ruling party, including MP, National General Secretary, and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, as well as Health Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya.
BJP leader Amit Malviya wrote on X: "The main accused? Manojit — a former student and TMCP member — along with two others.
"Another shameful chapter has been added to Bengal’s collapsing law and order under TMC rule."
OUTRAGEOUS! Manojit Mishra, one of the prime accused in the brutal gang-rape of a college student in Kasba has direct links with the most powerful in the TMC:
