India and Afghanistan take off: Air Cargo services to resume soon

India and Afghanistan will resume Air Cargo service shortly, announced a Ministry of External Affairs official on Friday, amid Afghanistan’s Commerce and Industry Minister Al-Haj Nooruddin Azizi's visit to New Delhi.

Anand Prakash, Joint Secretary in the MEA, said the long-pending air freight corridors on the Kabul-Delhi and Kabul-Amritsar routes have been activated.

“Cargo flights on these sectors will commence very soon. This will significantly enhance connectivity and further strengthen our trade and commercial ties,” he was quoted as saying by The Tribune.

After meeting the Afghan minister, Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said he discussed issues ranging from trade to connectivity with him.

In his X post, Jaishankar said: "Discussed ways to strengthen our trade, connectivity and people-to-people ties. Reiterated India’s support for the development and welfare of the people of Afghanistan."

The Indian government has upgraded the Technical Mission of the country in Kabul to an Embassy of India in Afghanistan last month.

The upgradation was executed just days after the Taliban administration’s acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi visited New Delhi for his maiden visit to the country since the group took control over the war-hit nation in 2021.
