The revision has been implemented under the provisions of the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Act, 2026, officials said.

Sharing details on X, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Mumbai Central, stated: “As per the provisions of the Jan Vishwas Act, 2026, the minimum penalty under Sections 137 & 138 of the Railway Act, 1989 has been increased from ₹250 to ₹500 with effect from 20 June 2026.”

Passengers were also urged to travel with valid tickets and comply with railway regulations to avoid penalties.

The Railways further cautioned that failure to pay the fine may result in legal proceedings and imprisonment of up to six months.
