Karnataka nurse uses Fevikwik adhesive on child's wound instead of stitches, suspended

By IBNS
Feb 6, 2025 ..

Bengaluru/IBNS: A nursing officer at Aduru Primary Health Case in the Haveri district of Karnataka was suspended after she applied Fevikwik adhesive on a child's wound instead of stitching it, media reports said.

The Haveri District Health Officer (DHO) had initially issued a show cause notice to the nurse and transferred her.

The DHO suspended the nurse after a massive outrage on social media.

Gurukrishna Annappa, 7, was brought to the primary health centre on January 14 after he suffered deep cuts in leg and chin.

Instead of stitching the cuts, nurse Jyothi applied the adhesive.

When Gurukrishna's parents confronted her, the nurse said the stitches would leave a scar and Fevikwik was a safer option.

The parents received not much support after lodging a complaint with the Health Protection Committee of Aduru Health Centre.

But the online outrage later forced the suspension of the nurse.
