Kolkata Police imposes prohibitory order in and around RG Kar Hospital for next 7 days
Kolkata: The Kolkata Police on Saturday issued a prohibitory order under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) for a period of seven days in and around RG Kar Hospital due to ongoing protests over the tragic rape and murder of a trainee doctor.
The order also extends to the surrounding roads for the same duration.
In the directive, the Kolkata Police stated that after assessing the area's law and order situation, and based on credible sources, there are valid concerns about the potential for violent demonstrations, rallies, or gatherings by certain groups.
This could lead to disruptions of peace, threats to public safety, health risks, and danger to human life, as well as hinder the work of doctors, nurses, medical staff, and others lawfully employed in the area.
Kolkata Commissioner of Police Vineet Kumar Goyal has ordered a prohibitory ban on rallies, meetings, processions, or demonstrations throughout Kolkata for seven days starting from August 18.
This measure is intended to prevent any breaches of peace and disturbances to public tranquility in the city.
During this period, no gatherings, protests, or rallies will be permitted in and around RG Kar Hospital.
