New Delhi/UNI/IBNS: Congress released its fourth list of 46 candidates for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections on Saturday which featured party veterans like Digvijaya Singh from Rajgarh, Ajay Rai from Varanasi, Danish Ali from Amroha, and Karti Chidambaram from Sivaganga.

The fourth list contains candidates from Assam, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Mizoram, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal.

Out of the 46 candidates in the list, the party has fielded one candidate each from Assam, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, and West Bengal; two each from Jammu and Kashmir, Manipur, and Uttarakhand; 12 from Madhya Pradesh; four from Maharashtra; three from Rajasthan; seven from Tamil Nadu; and nine from Uttar Pradesh.

Notably, out of the 46 seats, the party has left the Nagaur seat in Rajasthan for the RLP.

The Sivaganga constituency has long been dominated by the Chidambaram family, with Karti's father and veteran Congress leader P. Chidambaram representing it, except for one term, since 1984.

Digvijaya Singh, who is a Rajya Sabha MP, has been fielded from his former Lok Sabha constituency of Rajgarh in Madhya Pradesh. He won his last election in 1991. In 2019, Singh lost to BJP's Pragya Thakur by a margin of more than 3.5 lakh votes.

Despite consecutive defeats, Congress' Uttar Pradesh President Ajay Rai will face Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Varanasi for the third straight time.

Amid the veterans, the fourth list also features the newest entrant--Danish Ali--who joined Congress on Wednesday. Danish Ali, who was BSP MLA from Amroha, has been nominated from the same seat by the Congress. He was suspended by the Mayawati-led party after he spoke in support of Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra.

Meanwhile, the party also released 18 candidates for the assembly election in Sikkim.

On March 8, the Congress released the first list with 39 candidates, on March 12, the second list with 43 candidates, and the third list of 57 candidates on March 21.
