Mamata Banerjee's TMC fails to make electoral inroads in Tripura, Meghalaya
New Delhi/IBNS: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) failed to make much headway in either Meghalaya or Tripura in the recently concluded assembly elections in both states.

This is touted as major a setback for the TMC party, which sought to make inroads in the Northeast states as part of its all-India expansion plans.
TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee as well as other star campaigners such as Derek O’Brien and Mahua Moitra campaigned in both Meghalaya and Tripura.
Ina major embarrassment in Tripura, the TMC bagged votes share less than the NOTA.
The party contested 56 of the 60 seats in Meghalaya but managed to win just five.
In Tripura, Banerjee's party contested 28 of the 60 seats but failed to win any.
As Meghalaya was heading towards a hung assembly with no clear majority, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, whose National People's Party (NPP) is leading the field, called Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s chief strategist Amit Shah to renew their alliance and form government.
Meanwhile in Tripura, the BJP and its ally IPFT (Indigenous Progressive Front of Tripura) are leading in 33 of the 60-seat assembly.
