Migrant labourer lynched in Kerala;10 arrested
Thiruvananthapuram: At least 10 people have been arrested after a 24-year-old migrant labourer was lynched in Muvattupuzha, Kerala, two days ago, media reports said.
The victim was identified as Asok Das, hailing from Arunachal Pradesh, who had migrated to the southern state for employment and resided in a rented accommodation in Valakam, Muvattupuzha, reported NDTV.
It is alleged that he caused a disturbance outside the residence of a former female colleague near Valakom junction on Thursday night, after which a crowd tied him to a pole and questioned him, the report said.
While reports indicate that the group also roughed him up, local residents have refuted any such occurrence.
Residents found him bleeding and alerted the police. Initially, he was rushed to a nearby hospital and later on transferred to Kolencherry Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Friday, according to the First Information Report (FIR), it said.
The post-mortem examination report indicates that he was killed by blunt force trauma to his head and chest.
