PM Modi meets Philippines President Marcos, India-Philippines ties get major push

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in New Delhi on Sunday on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit, with the two leaders expressing satisfaction over the progress made in bilateral cooperation across various areas and agreeing to further deepen and expand collaboration.

The two sides discussed expanding cooperation in several key areas, including defence and security, trade and investment, space, railway infrastructure, fintech, education, tourism, science and technology, innovation and people-to-people ties.

Both leaders agreed to further advance bilateral relations under the Strategic Partnership established between India and the Philippines in August 2025 during President Marcos’ State Visit to India.

Prime Minister Modi welcomed the Philippines’ decision to join the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI).

The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest and reiterated their commitment to strengthening cooperation across all areas of the Strategic Partnership.
