The plant was gifted to him by the brave mothers and sisters of Kutch, Gujarat, who had displayed extraordinary courage and patriotism during the 1971 India-Pakistan war.

Recalling his recent visit to Gujarat, the Prime Minister said the gift of the Sindoor plant will remain a strong symbol of the bravery and inspiration of the women power of our country.

In a X post, PM Modi said, "In the 1971 war, the brave mothers and sisters of Kutch, who set an extraordinary example of courage and valor, recently presented me with a sindoor plant during my visit to Gujarat.

"On World Environment Day today, I had the privilege of planting that sapling at the Prime Minister’s residence in New Delhi. This plant will remain a powerful symbol of the valor and inspiration of our country’s women power."

Modi has also participated in a tree plantation drive and planted a sapling at the Bhagwan Mahavir Vanasthali Park in Delhi strengthening the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam initiative.

Modi also highlighted the importance of reforesting the Aravalli range under the Aravalli Green Wall project.

The Prime Minister noted that the Aravalli range, one of the oldest on the planet, spans Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Delhi.

He highlighted that the region faces multiple environmental challenges which the government is committed to addressing.
