PM Modi, Prez Murmu pay tribute to Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his 99th birth anniversary
New Delhi/UNI: President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and other top leaders paid floral tributes to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his 99th birth anniversary at the 'Sadaiv Atal' memorial in New Delhi on Monday.
Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President JP Nadda, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, and several other leaders also visited the former prime minister's memorial and offered flowers in Vajpayee's remembrance.
The BJP is organising several events across the country to mark the 99th birth anniversary of Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Monday, celebrated as "Good Governance Day."
Earlier, on social media post X (formally Twitter), Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote, "He remained engaged in accelerating nation-building throughout his life."
"On behalf of all the family members of the country, I pay my deepest respects to the respected former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji, on his birth anniversary. He remained engaged in accelerating nation-building throughout his life."
"His dedication and service towards Mother India will remain a source of inspiration even in his immortal age," PM Modi said.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also paid his tributes to former Prime Minister Vajpayee and said, "Atal ji served the country and society selflessly and gave a new direction to nationalist politics in the country through the establishment of the BJP."
"While he made the world realise the power of emerging India through nuclear testing and the Kargil War, he implemented the vision of good governance in the country. The country will always remember his immense contribution."
Paying homage to Atal Bihari Vajpayee, JP Nadda said his entire life was dedicated to national upliftment and public service.
"I pay my deepest respect to the pinnacle of Indian politics, our pathfinder, former Prime Minister, 'Bharat Ratna' Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji, on his birth anniversary. Your entire life dedicated to national upliftment and public service will always remain our inspiration," Nadda said on X.
December 25 marks the birth anniversary of the late Atal Bihari Vajpayee, former prime minister and a prominent leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Vajpayee was born on December 25, 1924, in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, and was elected three times as India's prime minister.
