Political storm in Bengal over alleged vandalism of Kali idol, BJP attacks Mamata Banerjee govt
A major political controversy has erupted in West Bengal after reports of alleged vandalism of a Kali idol in Kakdwip, near the Sundarbans.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government of appeasement and mishandling the situation after the idol was reportedly removed by police in a van.
According to local reports, the incident triggered protests in the area, prompting police intervention.
Videos shared on social media showed an idol of Goddess Kali being taken away in a police vehicle, drawing sharp criticism from opposition leaders.

BJP attacks TMC government
BJP leaders launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her administration.
BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya posted on X: “Mamata Banerjee’s police took away Maa Kali in a prison van! Shame, shame — there’s no place to hide this disgrace.”
He further alleged that the state police tried to suppress the incident.
“Police initially intimidated villagers and locked the temple gates, but had to reopen them after strong protests from locals,” he claimed.
Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari also hit out at the government, writing on X: “Instead of arresting culprits, the Kali idol was taken into a prison van! And seven Hindu protectors were arrested. You can do whatever you want.”

Union Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar said the incident reflected “blatant appeasement.”
“In a blatant display of appeasement toward hardline fundamentalists, the failed Chief Minister @MamataOfficial and her party leaders have, on multiple occasions, attempted in various ways to hurt the religious sentiments and faith of Sanatan Hindu followers. But such an unfortunate and insulting sight has never before been witnessed in West Bengal,” he wrote.

“The idol of Maa Kali was placed inside a prison van! This incident is not only utterly condemnable but one that compels every devotee to bow their head in shame,” he added.
Trinamool’s response
The ruling Trinamool Congress dismissed the BJP’s allegations, accusing the opposition of trying to inflame communal tensions.
A party spokesperson said,“The police have explained it. Some people are trying to play distorted politics out of it. Action is being taken by police.”
The police have not yet released an official statement on the sequence of events but confirmed that an investigation is underway.
