Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj Party fails to open account in Bihar by-poll

Patna: Prashant Kishor vowed to continue his efforts to boost the vote share of his Jan Suraaj Party to 40%, asserting his determination to achieve the target despite poor debut in the Bihar Assembly by-polls, media reports said.

The party contested all four seats but failed to secure a win, and three candidates lost their security deposits.

Kishor had earlier announced that the party would contest all four seats in this election, marking his first foray into electoral politics.

When launching Jan Suraaj on October 2, he declared plans to field candidates in all 243 seats for the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.

However, the party's performance in its maiden electoral test fell short of expectations.

Responding to the loss, Kishor said he was undeterred. “Our party is just a month old, and we received our election symbol only ten days before the polls.

“The elections took place in areas where the Jan Suraaj Yatra had not yet reached, and we were still building our base. Despite that, we secured an overall vote share of 10%,” he was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

Taking responsibility for the party’s performance, Kishor admitted, “The vote percentage was lower than expected, but I remain committed. I will work relentlessly to raise it to 40%, whether it takes one year or five.”

He also urged party workers to stay motivated and not lose heart over the initial setback.
