The incident, captured on CCTV, took place in the Kardhani area of the Rajasthan capital.
The assault was reported at around 7:45 pm at a Shiva temple on Ganesh Nagar Main, Nivaru Road.
CCTV captures priest being attacked
According to the complaint, three members of a family living near the temple — identified as Harish Chaturvedi, his son Devansh and Ritu — entered the temple premises and confronted priest Ramakrishna over the volume of the bhajans.
CCTV footage shows the priest arguing with one of the men before the confrontation turns physical.
The man is seen allegedly punching and kicking the elderly priest before pinning him to the ground. During the assault, the priest's clothes were also torn.
Devotees and other bystanders eventually intervened and pulled the man away from the priest.
Two arrested after Priest's complaint
According to Kardhani Police Station SHO Sawai Singh, priest Ramakrishna, a resident of Ganesh Nagar Main, filed a complaint following the incident.
Police said Harish Chaturvedi and Devansh were arrested in connection with the case for disturbing peace. The complaint was registered at around 1 pm on Sunday.
According to the priest's complaint, the accused family members allegedly picked a quarrel with him over the volume of the devotional music and assaulted him in the presence of devotees.
Cross-complaint also filed
Police said a cross-complaint has also been registered on behalf of the accused family.
The incident has sparked anger among local residents and members of the priest's family, who have demanded strict action against those responsible.
Police have said that the matter is being investigated and that further action will be taken based on the findings.
