Saif Ali Khan attack case: Amid reports of fingerprint mismatch, Mumbai Police issues clarification
Mumbai/IBNS: The Mumbai Police have clarified that they have the right accused in their custody in connection with the Said Ali Khan attack case amid reports of fingerprints mismatch.
"Yes, we have the right man in custody," the Mumbai Police said on Tuesday while answering questions from the media.
"The person who has been arrested is the accused. We have caught the right accused. We have got enough evidence to prove that he is the accused, there is no doubt whether he is the accused or not," said Paramjit Singh Dahiya, Additional Commissioner of Police, Mumbai
"A lot of technical, physical and oral evidence has been found against the accused," said the senior police official, dismissing media reports that appear to suggest that the wrong man has been arrested.
Saif was stabbed in five places including his back, wrist, neck, shoulder, and elbow, and was taken to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai in an autorickshaw by his friend Afsar Zaidi, the actor's medical report stated.
The actor received a wound close to the spinal cord. Doctors had to perform surgery on him to remove the knife which was 2.5 inches deep into the wound.
The attack on the house of a top-level celebrity has left the Mumbai Police red-faced.
Islam earlier revealed that he wanted to steal money from someone rich and travel to his own country to treat his ailing mother.
The attacker had booked a train ticket from Mumbai to Howrah Station in Kolkata from where he had planned to travel to Bangladesh.
He has told police that someone had promised to get fake citizenship documents made for him in exchange for money.
Earlier it was reported that the fingerprints collected from Saif's house after the attack did not match that of the accused.
In his statement, Saif said he and his wife, Bollywood superstar Kareena Kapoor Khan, were in their bedroom on the 11th floor of the Satguru Sharan building, when he heard Jeh's nanny screaming which woke the couple up.
Upon rushing to Jeh's room, Saif found, as he claimed, Eliyama Philips, the nanny, was screaming while Jeh was crying.
The actor said he tried to stop the intruder paving the way for Philips to run away with Jeh.
However, the actor said he was stabbed by the attacker on back, neck and hands multiple times while he was trying to stop the intruder.
Saif said he had then locked the intruder in the room.
