Seven pilgrims killed
The hotel is located opposite the Tarapith Temple in Birbhum.
According to sources, at least seven pilgrims have been killed after being trapped in the blaze.
West Bengal: At least five people have died and several others fallen ill after a fire broke out at a hotel near Tarapith Police Station in Birbhum district early this morning.

The victims had reportedly visited Tarapith to offer prayers during the holy month of Shravan.
Several others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Rampurhat Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

Fire breaks out around 4 am
The fire was first reported around 4 am when pilgrims were sleeping inside the four-storey hotel.
According to reports, the blaze initially broke out in the reception area before spreading to other parts of the building.
Rescue operations underway
Firefighters reached the spot and brought the flames under control. Rescue operations are currently underway.
Cause of fire unknown
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
