Telangana engineer, who worked on Kaleshwaram irrigation project, held in disproportionate case
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday raided 13 locations linked to Executive Engineer Nune Sridhar, who works at the Telangana irrigation department, and found assets worth Rs. 70 crore that are disproportionate to his known sources of income, media reports said.
The engineer was subsequently arrested, while the searches are still ongoing.
The list of such assets included a 4,500 square foot flat in a luxury residential complex called Sky High in Hyderabad's Shaikpet, besides at least three other flats in Karimnagar.
According to officials, Sridhar also owns a villa in Tellapur near Hyderabad, at least three independent buildings in Warangal, Karimanagar and Hyderabad, 19 prime residential plots in the three cities, 16 acres of agricultural land, and stakes in multiple hotels in Karimnagar, worth several crores, besides cash, jewellery and bank deposits.
The engineer also organised a lavish destination wedding for his son in Thailand, where he spent crores of money.
The executive engineer was also involved in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project - the world's largest multi-stage lift irrigation project - which has been mired in corruption allegations, NDTV reported, quoting sources.
Former Telangana chief minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi chief K Chandrashekar Rao has also been summoned by the PC Ghose Commission, which is probing alleged irregularities in the project.
The corruption allegations surrounding the project was a major issue in the 2023 Assembly elections in the state, with the Bharat Rashtra Samithi rubbishing all the charges.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau has filed a disproportionate assets (DA) case against Sridhar.
