Union Minister of state for Home Nisith Pramanik and Dinhata TMC MLA Udayan Guha were present during the clashes.

The clashes erupted after a poll campaign rally, which was addressed by Pramanik, was over, and a rally led by Guha came face-to-face at Dinhata.

Guha had gone to attend a party leader on his birthday and had stepped out on the road with his followers.

The state police had to use batons to disperse the warring rival supporters.

Pramanik, who is BJP's Lok Sabha candidate from Cooch Behar, alleged his supporters were attacked by Guha's loyalists even without any provocation.

Several shops were vandalised during the clash and a sub-divisional police officer sustained an injury.

The incident has prompted TMC to call a 24-hour Cooch Behar district bandh though the ruling party has completely worked against any bandh since it came to power in 2011.
