UP: Man stabbed to death, 7 others injured during loot attempt in Katra
A man was stabbed to death and seven members of his family, including three women and two children, were seriously injured by unidentified persons during loot attempt in Katra area of Shahjahanpur district here in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, a police officer said here.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Ashok Kumar Meena said that Alok Kumar Gupta (36) was a teacher in a private college.
"In the wee hours on Tuesday some criminals entered the house of Gupta with the intention of looting. During this Gupta woke up and resisted the move on which the miscreants stabbed him several times, killing him on the spot," he said.
He said that the criminals attacked Alok's wife Khushboo, father Sudhir Gupta, brother Prashant, his wife Ruchi and three children.
"The injured have been admitted to a private hospital where their condition is stated to be serious," he said.
The SP said that Additional Director General of Police (ADG) Bareilly zone Rakesh Kumar inspected the spot.
"Teams have been formed to investigate the matter thoroughly. The accused will be arrested soon," he said.
Meanwhile, to protest against the incident local traders have decided to keep their shops shut.
President of Katra Vyapaar Mandal Anup Agarwal said that Alok's father Sudhit Gupta is a ready made garments trader and there is resentment among the traders after the incident.
