Silchar: Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Silchar, seized 20 kg of Crystal Methamphetamine, valued at approximately Rs 40 crore, from Dholai Bazar in Cachar district of Assam, officials said.

The operation, based on specific intelligence inputs, was conducted on October 30, 2026. A joint team intercepted a suspected narcotics consignment and apprehended three persons allegedly involved in its transportation.

A detailed search led to the recovery of 20 packets containing approximately 20 kg of Crystal Methamphetamine, with an estimated international market value of ₹40 crore. The team also seized three mobile phones and two vehicles used in connection with the transportation of the contraband.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the consignment originated in Mizoram and was being transported through Silchar, allegedly serving as a transit point for its onward movement to mainland India.

The apprehended persons, along with the seized narcotics and other materials, were handed over to DRI Silchar for further investigation and legal proceedings.

According to officials, the seizure is the first-ever recovery of Crystal Methamphetamine of this scale in the area and highlights the ongoing efforts of Assam Rifles and other enforcement agencies to curb organised synthetic drug trafficking through coordinated intelligence-based operations.
