Mizoram becomes first Indian state to achieve full literacy
Aizawl/IBNS: Mizoram has become the first Indian state to achieve full literacy, media reports said.
Mizoram, a northeastern state of India, has attained 98.2% literacy rate under the ULLAS (Understanding Lifelong Learning for All in Society) initiative.
ULLAS has set 95 percent literacy as the benchmark for a state to get declared as full literacy.
It was declared by Chief Minister Lalduhoma at a ceremony on May 20.
The ceremony was attended by Mizoram Education Minister Dr Vanlalthlana and Union Minister of State for Education, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Jayant Chaudhary.
Describing it as a proud moment for Mizoram, Lalduhoma said as quoted by NDTV, "This is not merely a statistic, but a testament to the discipline, determination, and vision of our people."
The Chief Minister has already shifted his focus on achieving other forms of literacy, in areas like digital, finance and entrepreneurship.
"As we celebrate this achievement, we also renew our commitment to sustaining literacy through continuous education, digital access, and vocational skill training"
"Let us now aim higher: digital literacy, financial literacy, and entrepreneurial skill for all Mizos," he said.
