NFR takes measures to ensure passenger hydration amid rising temperature
Guwahati: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) towards its commitment of providing better passenger amenities and comfort intensifies its efforts for supply of clean drinking water at several station premises and onboard trains, while availing journeys. As temperature soar this summer, NFR with a focus on providing essential means of hydration to its passengers, has ensured availability of Water Vending Machines (WVMs), Water Coolers & Water Taps across the several major railway stations within its zone.
Moreover, water refilling of all the long-distance trains is being ensured at regular interval sat nominated stations or as and when noticed by employing the Quick Watering system method.
Adopting a proactive step during this ravishing summer, NFR has ensured operation of more than 100 nos. of Water Vending Machines at several major station platforms which includes stations like Katihar Jn., New Jalpaiguri, Raiganj, Samsi, New Coochbehar, Kokrajhar, Hasimara and many more. These installed WVMs dispense clean and hygiene water for refilling at bottles and with carry away containers. These machines will enable passengers to purchase potable drinking water at reasonable price. The facility will be available at stations round the clock. Passengers can buy clean &hygienic drinking water for only Rs 5/- for refilling and Rs 8/- for carry away container of one litre bottles. Similarly, bottles of 5 litre water capacity costs Rs 20/- for refill and Rs 25/-for carry away containers.
In addition to WVMs, adequate numbers of water coolers, water taps & tube wells are also functional at all stations of the zone to ensure the availability of free cold drinking water to those in need, at designated distance of railway platforms to maintain the uniformity in accessibility. Approximately, 126 nos. of water coolers, 8015 nos. of taps and 494 nos. of tube wells are in place for the passengers at station platforms to cope with the demand.
These concerted efforts to supply drinking water to passengers at stations and trains not o-nly promote hydration but also enhance the overall travel experience for passengers. NFR always remain dedicated towards implementing initiatives that prioritize passenger welfare and comfort, especially during adverse weather conditions.
