Bollywood in shock: 'He-Man' Dharmendra dies at 89 — industry and fans mourn legendary star
Mumbai/IBNS: Veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra passed away at his Mumbai home on Monday at the age of 89, marking an end of an era in the Indian film industry.
Dharmendra died 12 days after being discharged from Breach Candy Hospital, where he was admitted for breathlessness. He was due to turn 90 on December 8.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi mourned his demise, writing on X, "The passing of Dharmendra Ji marks the end of an era in Indian cinema. He was an iconic film personality, a phenomenal actor who brought charm and depth to every role he played.
"The manner in which he played diverse roles struck a chord with countless people. Dharmendra Ji was equally admired for his simplicity, humility and warmth. In this sad hour, my thoughts are with his family, friends and innumerable fans. Om Shanti."

Several Bollywood celebrities, including Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Salman Khan, visited the crematorium to pay their last respects.
Filmmaker Karan Johar expressed his grief on Instagram, calling Dharmendra “a bonafide legend of Indian cinema” and praising his “incredible warmth” and “massive, mega” star presence.
Johar added: “There will always be the one and only Dharamji … we love you kind Sir … we will miss you so much.”
Known fondly as the ‘He-Man of Bollywood,’ Dharmendra had been one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated stars for over six decades, delivering memorable performances in films such as Sholay, Chupke Chupke, Phool Aur Patthar, and Satyakam.
He was last seen in the romantic sci-fi film Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya alongside Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon. His upcoming project, Sriram Raghavan’s Ikkis, will feature Agastya Nanda, grandson of Amitabh Bachchan, making his debut. The film is slated for release on December 25, 2025.
