Box office explosion! Dhurandhar smashes Rs 1,000 crore, Ranveer–Akshaye rewrite Bollywood history
Mumbai/IBNS: Ranveer Singh-starrer Hindi film Dhurandhar has crossed the Rs 1,000-crore mark globally within 22 days of its theatrical release, according to trade tracker Sacnilk.
Directed by Aditya Dhar, the spy action thriller has become the ninth Bollywood film overall and the first release of the year to achieve the milestone.
At the domestic box office, Dhurandhar has scripted history by emerging as the highest-grossing Bollywood film in India, collecting Rs 760 crore, Sacnilk reported. The film co-stars veteran actor Akshaye Khanna in a key role.
Produced by Jio Studios and B62 Studios, the film also features Sara Arjun, 20, as Ranveer Singh’s romantic interest. The ensemble cast includes Sanjay Dutt and R. Madhavan in pivotal roles.
Set against major real-life incidents such as the 1999 IC-814 hijacking and the 2001 Parliament attack, Dhurandhar follows a covert Indian intelligence operation aimed at infiltrating and dismantling Pakistan-based terror and criminal networks.
The narrative centres on a high-stakes mission led by senior intelligence officials, who deploy an unconventional operative to penetrate Karachi’s underworld, triggering violent confrontations, shifting loyalties and intense power struggles.
With a runtime exceeding three hours, Dhurandhar blends espionage, large-scale action and geopolitical drama, while concluding with a clear setup for a sequel.
Apart from Ranveer Singh’s performance, Akshaye Khanna’s stylised screen presence has generated strong buzz on social media. His entry sequence, set to Flipperachi’s trending track ‘FA9LA’, has gone viral, with viewers calling it a throwback to his earlier screen persona.
