'Mayar Jonjal' speaks of people we all are aware of': Actor Ritwick Chakraborty
Kolkata/IBNS: Bengali actor Ritwick Chakraborty teamed up with filmmaker Indranil Roychowdhury for the third film (including a short one) Mayar Jonjal, which is loosely based on two stories written by eminent Bengali author late Manik Bandyopadhyay.
The trailer of the upcoming film, which deals with the marginalised society, was unveiled by the makers at the 46th International Kolkata Book Fair at Boi Mela Prangan in Kolkata's Salt Lake area on Monday.
On the sidelines of the trailer launch, Chakraborty shares with IBNS, "I am aware of these people (shown in the film). In fact, we all are aware. My character is not just about being unstable in his profession but also he doesn't allow his wife to work. This leads to his crisis which is dealt with in the film."
On working with Indranil Roychowdhury for the third time, the actor said, "Indranil-da always tries to make his works distinct from one another. His style of filmmaking and storytelling remains distinct in each film."
Chakraborty earlier featured in Indranil Roychowdhury's Phoring (2013 film) and short film Bhalobashar Shohor, which was released in 2017.
Speaking of his film which has got its germs from Manik Bandyopadhyay's stories, director Roychowdhury said, "Mayar Jonjal is a contemporary imagination of Manik Bandyopadhyay's world. The hopes, desires, fears of the internal world of the marginalised society has been showcased in this film."
Apart from Chakraborty, Mayar Jonjal features Paran Bandyopadhyay, Bratya Basu, Kamalika Banerjee, Chandrayee Ghosh, Bangladeshi actor Aupee Karim among others in the key roles.
"Mayar Jonjal deals with characters who are marginalised, greedy, helpless, dreamers. My character gets entangled somehow in this world," says West Bengal Minister-actor Bratya Basu at the trailer launch event.
Mayar Jonjal, an Indo-Bangladesh joint venture, is slated for Feb 24 release.
