Dhaka: Bengali film legend Suchitra Sen's death anniversary today. Her breathed last on January 17, 2014 while undergoing treatment at Bellevue hospital in Kolkata.
Suchitra Sen was born on April 6, 1931 in Pabna, Bangladesh. Her real name is Rama Dasgupta.
Suchitra Sen first stepped into the film world in 1952. Her first film 'Sheh Khotai' was not released. Then, in 1953, 'Sare Chuattar', starring the great hero Uttam Kumar, got a response in the film industry.
Suchitra Sen has also achieved success by acting in Bengali films as well as Hindi films. Her first Hindi film was 'Devdas' (1955), opposite famous Bollywood actor Dilip Kumar.
Suchitra Sen's notable films include Agni Praksha (1954), Devdas (1955-Hindi), Shapmochan (1955), Sagarika (1956), Triyama (1956), Shilpi (1956), Ek Raat (1956), Harano Sur (1957). ), Pathe Hallo Deri (1957), Jeevan Trishna (1957), Chandranath (1957), Rajalakshmi and Srikanth (1958), Indrani (1958), Dwip Jhale Jai (1958), Hospital (1960), Bombay Ka Babu (1960- Hindi), Saptpadi (1961), Sat Pakke Bandha (1963), Uttar Falguni (1963), Har Mana Har (1972), Devi Chaudhurani (1974), Aandhi (1975-Hindi), Datta (1976) and Pranaypasha (1978). .
Suchitra Sen went into the limelight after making 'Pranoy Pasha' in 1978.
In 2005, Suchitra Sen was offered the Dada Saheb Phalke, India's highest state honor in the film industry. But Suchitra Sen went to Delhi to hide from the public eye and expressed her inability to accept the honor.
Suchitra Sen won the Best Actress Award at the Moscow International Film Festival in 1963 for her performance in the film 'Sat Paake Bandha'.
She is the second actress to receive international awards. In 1972, she received the state award Padma Shri. In 2012, she was awarded the Bengali Bhushan award by the West Bengal government.
