Speaking about the backlash over Kriti's outfit, Madhu said she supports the principle of “my body, my choice”, but believes there should also be certain boundaries depending on the cultural setting and occasion.

“My body, my choice is right, but woh daayra zaruri hai. Dignity, respecting other people’s values is important.”

She added that while such clothing may be acceptable in places where it is considered normal, she felt the same context did not apply here, saying, “Par yeh yahan normal nahi hai. Sorry to say that.”

Madhu also appeared to defend her daughter Priyanka's choice of bold outfits, while stressing that clothing should be appropriate to the occasion and cultural context.

Her comments come amid the wider Kangana Ranaut-Kriti Sanon-GIVA controversy, which began after Kangana criticised Kriti's styling in the Raksha Bandhan campaign.

GIVA subsequently withdrew the advertisement following the backlash.

Ranaut's criticism focused on what she described as the cultural and civilisational significance of Hindu festivals.

Her remarks sparked a larger discussion over whether traditional festivals should necessarily be represented through conventional Indian attire and customs.

Sanon subsequently appeared to respond to the criticism without naming Ranaut directly.

The actor argued that culture is rooted in a person's values and emotions rather than simply in their clothes. Her response shifted the debate towards women's autonomy and whether a person's attire should be used as a measure of their respect for tradition.
