Nagarjuna recounts Nayanthara's 'turbulent' past relationship in Netflix documentary on actress
Indian actor Nagarjuna has opened up about his colleague Nayanthara's "turbulent" past relationship in a documentary on the actress, titled Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairytale.
The documentary started streaming on Netflix on Monday.
Recalling an incident of shooting in Switzerland, Nagarjuna said, "I remember we were shooting in Switzerland; I think she was going through a very turbulent time in a relationship. We would all dread her phone ringing. If the phone rang, this girl’s mood would just come down. She would just turn off."
"I remember asking her, why are you doing this to yourself? You’re an accomplished woman," he added.
Nagarjuna has also praised Nayanthara's personality saying she had an "aura of royalty".
The actor said, "When Nayan walked into the set, of course, she was beautiful, but there was an aura of royalty walking in. The warmth she spoke with, her genuine smile, I had this instant connection with her. This is a person I would like to be friends with."
Nayanthara is a Tamil superstar who has also worked in Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi films.
Rama Rajyam, Raja Rani, Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, Aramm, Puthiya Niyamam, Annapoorani: The Goddess of Food, Bigil, Jawan are a few of the illustrious works of the 40-year-old.
The release of the documentary was embroiled with controversy after Dhanush, who was the producer of the film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, slapped a legal notice against Nayanthara and demanded Rs. 10 crore as compensation from the actress for using a clip of the film in the show's trailer.
Nayanthara responded with a fiery three-page open letter on Instagram, expressing shock at the demand for Rs 10 crore over "mere three seconds" of footage, which she claimed consisted of behind-the-scenes (BTS) visuals shot on personal devices.
In her letter, Nayanthara criticised Dhanush for what she called an "all-time low" and stated her intent to respond legally.
She alleged that Dhanush had repeatedly refused permission to include songs or visuals from Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in the documentary despite multiple requests.
"We were startled to read those lines questioning the usage of BTS visuals that are already publicly available and claiming Rs 10 crore as damages," she wrote, accusing Dhanush of not practicing the ideals he promotes publicly.
