Raj Vasudeva–Adil Hussain film Mercy set for April 24 release; first glimpse out with Dhurandhar 2
Mumbai/IBNS: Following a global festival run, the first glimpse for the highly anticipated drama ‘Mercy’ released on March 27 in the theatres exclusively with the film 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge’.
Mercy is set to release in theatres on April 24.
Navigating the sensitive subject of passive euthanasia, the film offers a deeply moving exploration of compassion, duty, and the blurred lines of legal morality, standing out as a heartfelt drama centered on the emotional limits of a family facing life’s final chapters.
The narrative arrives at a time when the national conversation around end-of-life dignity has been reignited, following the recent case of Harish Rana, who had been in a vegetative state for over 13 years and became the first individual permitted passive euthanasia by the Supreme Court of India, mirroring the film’s exploration of deeply complex moral and legal realities.
Actor Raj Vasudeva said, "Bringing Mercy to the big screen feels like the culmination of a deeply personal journey. This film is incredibly close to my heart because it explores the quiet, often ignored strength of a family in crisis.
"While I am profoundly moved by the immense appreciation we’ve received, the real reward is seeing how Shekhar’s story has touched hearts everywhere. I am filled with excitement to finally share this labor of love with the audience."
Actor Adil Hussain shared his sentiments, "For me, Mercy is more than just a cinematic project; it is a significant reflection on the human condition and the dignity we all deserve. Watching the film gather such immense gratitude and appreciation has been heartening.
"It proves that stories told with such raw honesty have a universal language. As we approach our theatrical release, my sentiment is one of pure anticipation for the audience to experience this journey."
Director Mitul Patel said, "As a filmmaker, telling a story like Mercy felt like a soul-deep responsibility. To have our vision embraced on so many prestigious global platforms is overwhelming, but the true importance of this film lies in its message of compassion and 'letting go.'
"The journey from the international circuit to a nationwide release on April 24 has been a whirlwind of emotions, and I am eager to see how it resonates at home."
The film has carved out an extraordinary reputation on the global circuit, amassing accolades and standing as a heavyweight in contemporary meaningful cinema.
It secured the title of Best International Feature Film at the London Independent International Film Festival, while dominating the Jaipur International Film Festival (JIFF) with honors for Best Actor (Raj Vasudeva) and Best Debutante Director (Mitul Patel).
Beyond these victories, Mercy has been celebrated at the Chicago South Asian Film Festival, the UK Asian Film Festival (London), and the Indian International Film Festival of Stuttgart, marking it as a truly global critical favourite.
The film’s emotional anchor is its stellar ensemble cast. Veteran actor Adil Hussain, known for his unparalleled depth, joins forces with Raj Vasudeva and Niharica Raizada to deliver what critics are calling career-defining performances.
They are supported by the talented Aparna Ghoshal and Kunal Bhan, creating a domestic landscape that feels both intimate and devastatingly real.
