Virgin River set to be Netflix's longest-running scripted series with Season 8 renewal

The series has been renewed for Season 8 in less than a month after filming for the seventh season was concluded.

“On behalf of myself and the whole Virgin River family, we’re eternally grateful to Netflix and to the fans for allowing us to continue on this journey with these beloved characters,” showrunner Patrick Sean Smith tells Tudum.

“Season 7 will find Mel and Jack taking their first steps into marriage as they start to plan for and build a life and family together. Meanwhile, Doc and Hope will work together to protect the clinic and the integrity of the town from outsiders,” Smith tells Tudum about the upcoming Season 7, which will welcome two new faces into the fold.

Produced by Reel World Management, Virgin River is based on the Virgin River novels by Robyn Carr.

Filmed in British Columbia, Canada, the first season of the series- which is shown to be set in the United States, premiered on December 6, 2019.

The story begins with Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge), who is a nurse practitioner and a midwife, leaving the city and moving to the remote Northern California town of Virgin River to work for a clinic in a bid to recover from the grief of her husband's untimely death.

Mel, who falls in love with Jack (Martin Henderson) who owns a pub in the small town, discovers the not-so simple living in the town as she had expected.

Apart from running a pub, Jack is shown as a former U.S. Marine who suffers from PTSD or post-traumatic stress disorder.

Jack and Mel were shown getting hitched in Season 6, the latest part which is available.

The premiere date of Season 7 is yet to be unveiled.
