Akash Deep, Gill help India beat England by 336 runs in second Test, level series

India put up a fighting performance against England, with Akash Deep picking up six wickets to help the visitors bowl out the hosts for 271 runs to win the second match by 336 runs

India's victory helped them level the five-match series 1-1.

Chasing a nearly impossible 608 runs, England's batsmen kept struggling on the pitch that mostly helped the batsmen, losing wickets at regular intervals.

Jamie Smith (88) remained the lone fighter for the otherwise collapsing English innings that fumbled in front of a spirited performance by Akash.

Apart from Akash and Siraj's bowling performance, which remained the focal point in the innings, the foundation for India's win was set by skipper Shubman Gill.

Gill played a heroic knock of 269 runs in the first innings, which was followed by 169 runs in the second innings.

Indian bowling attack showed they can perform even without the service of number one pacer Jasprit Bumrah.

Young bowler Akash Deep rose to the occasion, delivering a match-winning performance with a ten-wicket haul, including the final wicket of the game — Brydon Carse caught by Gill at cover — to trigger jubilant celebrations.

It was Akash Deep's maiden ten-fer in Tests and marked his arrival on the big stage.

This 336-run win ranks among India’s most comprehensive overseas victories in the history of the game.

India bounced back in the tournament after being defeated in the first Test.
