World Champion Dommaraju Gukesh defeated former World Number 1 Magnus Carlsen with a late turnaround in the Norway Chess 2025 on Sunday.

Though Carlsen dominated the game throughout, Gukesh scripted a rebound from a losing position to stun the former World No.

While Carlsen banged the table in frustration after the unexpected loss, Gukesh got a sign of relief after the epic battle concluded.

As the tension eased, Carlsen later apologised to Gukesh for the outburst of his emotions.

With the win, the 19-year-old became the second Indian to defeat Carlsen in the history of the competition.

Earlier, India's Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa had defeated the Norwegian in 2022.

As per the points table, Gukesh is now placed at number three with 8.5 points, just behind Carlsen (9.5) and American Fabiano Caruana (9.5).

Last year, Gukesh scripted history by becoming the youngest ever world champion at the age of 18.

Gukesh had defeated China's Ding Liren in a battle which went on for three weeks.
