Hospitalised Vinod Kambli battles brain clots, finds strength in unwavering support from friend Sachin Tendulkar
Mumbai: Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli is under medical care at Akruti Hospital in Thane after a critical health scare, media reports said.
Admitted on Monday, Kambli was diagnosed with brain clots following complaints of a urinary infection and cramps.
Dr. Vivek Trivedi, overseeing Kambli’s treatment, confirmed the diagnosis after a series of tests, Mint reported.
“Kambli’s health is being constantly monitored, and additional examinations are scheduled for Tuesday,” he was quoted as saying by Mint.
In a compassionate gesture, hospital in-charge S. Singh pledged lifelong free treatment for the cricketer, according to the report.
Kambli’s health challenges extend beyond brain clots.

He is also battling a severe urinary tract infection and electrolyte imbalance, marked by critically low sodium and potassium levels.
These imbalances caused cramps, dizziness, and physical exhaustion, further complicating his recovery.
This isn’t Kambli’s first health crisis. In 2013, he survived two heart attacks, leaving him with a history of cardiac vulnerabilities.
Coupled with his current condition, these recurring health issues highlight the fragility of his overall health. Adding to his struggles is a long-standing battle with alcohol addiction. Kambli has undergone rehabilitation 14 times but continues to seek intervention, media reports said.
“I promised to do everything the doctor asks of me,” he said, showing a determination to overcome his challenges, reported Business Standard.
Kambli credits his wife, children, and close friends for their unwavering support. Among them is Ajay Jadeja, whose encouragement has been a source of strength.
The most enduring bond in Kambli’s life, however, remains his friendship with childhood friend Sachin Tendulkar.
Tendulkar has extended substantial financial assistance, covering Kambli’s medical expenses, including surgeries at Lilavati Hospital.
Fans and the cricketing fraternity were alarmed by recent videos showing Kambli struggling to speak and walk.
These visuals elicited widespread concern and calls for collective support to help the former cricketer through his ordeal.
Despite his struggles, Kambli remains determined to inspire others. “People will see the inspiration I’ll give them,” he said, reflecting his indomitable spirit.
With 17 Test matches and 104 One-Day Internationals to his name, Kambli’s cricketing achievements remain cherished. As he fights to reclaim his health, he is buoyed by an outpouring of prayers, goodwill, and unwavering support from across borders.
