Lionel Messi says World Cup final will be his last game for Argentina
Buenos Aires: Argentina's football icon Lionel Messi has confirmed that the final match of the World Cup is going to be his last game for the national side.
Argentina defeated Croatia 3-0 to reach the final of the showpiece tournament.
The Messi-led squad will face either France or Morocco in the final of the tournament on Sunday.
Messi has emerged as the ongoing competition's best goal scorer and assist provider this year.
In the semi-final, he scored the first goal and then assisted Julian Alvarez in scoring the third goal.
Messi confirmed his decision of retirement to Argentina's local media outlet Diario Deportivo Ole.
"I feel very happy to be able to achieve this, to finish my World Cup journey by playing my last game in a final," he told the media outlet as quoted by DNA.
He said he finds finishing off the tournament by reaching the final as the 'best'.
