Nagaland Men's Blind Football Team Impresses in National Tournament
The Nagaland men's blind football team recently made a remarkable debut at the Indian Blind Football Federation (IBFF) National Tournament held in Jamshedpur from May 17 to 20.
They secured their spot in the tournament after a commendable performance in the North East Zonal qualifiers held in Arunachal Pradesh in January 2023, reported Mourung Express.
The national tournament brought together 19 state teams from across the country to compete for the coveted title.
Led by Head Coach Diethozo Yoho and Assistant Coach cum Goal Guide Kezhaleto Zecho, the Nagaland team, consisting of Odimongba, Ragulong Newmai, Kholang, Yafo, and Hangmei Henka, displayed their abilities on the field and made a lasting impression on fans and participants alike.
Despite their triumph over seasoned West Bengal, the Nagaland team missed out on qualifying for the semifinals due to a one-point deficit against Kerala in the group stages.
Nevertheless, they showed tremendous skill, teamwork, and resilience throughout the tournament, reflecting their dedication and hard work.
Expressing gratitude to the Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Directorate of Social Welfare, and Directorate of Youth Resources & Sports for their support, Assistant Coach Kezhaleto Zecho stated that their contribution enabled them to showcase their talent and compete against some of the best blind football teams in the country.
The team's successful participation in the national event is a testament to the determination and spirit of visually impaired athletes in Nagaland.
It serves as a milestone in their journey towards inclusion, empowerment, and breaking barriers. Their performance has also inspired aspiring blind footballers in Nagaland and beyond.
