Sports should not be mixed with politics: Pakistan decides to send cricket team to India for World Cup, targets BCCI over Asia Cup move
Pakistan ended all dilemma and decided to send its cricket team to India to participate in the 50 overs World Cup which will be held later this year.
Pakistan's Foreign Office (FO) confirmed the development and said in a statement: "Pakistan has consistently maintained that sports should not be mixed with politics. It has, therefore, decided to send its Cricket Team to India to participate in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023."
"Pakistan believes that the state of bilateral relations with India should not stand in the way of fulfilling its international sports-related obligations," read the statement.
"Pakistan’s decision shows its constructive and responsible approach vis-à-vis India’s intransigent attitude, as the latter had refused to send its Cricket Team to Pakistan for the Asia Cup," read the statement.
Doubts over Pakistan's participation in the event emerged after India refused to travel to the neighbouring nation to play the Asia Cup.
The tournament will be played ahead of the World Cup starting on Aug 30.
India will now participate in the tournament after Sri Lanka was named the co-host for it.
India will play all their games in the Island Nation.
