In continuation of anti-drug operations, Tripura police on Thursday achieved major success by seizing large quantities of contraband items and arrested four drug peddlers including three women from Teliamura and Dharmanagar.
Police sources said that during regular checking of vehicles in front of Teliamura police station under Khowai district, a police detained Max jeep going towards Ambassa from Agartala. In the course of search in the jeep, police detained three suspected women due to their attire.
When women police conducted their search in the bodies of three detained women, they recovered a total of 15.5 kgs of dry Cannabis (Ganja) under their possessions and arrested all three women in a case registered under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985.
Police added that they will produce all arrested women before a local court with police remand appeals for interrogation and to get details of dug transportation networks.
In another operation, the North Tripura district police during checking of vehicles at Bagbasa Naka point on Wednesday midnight, police arrested a drug peddler, identified as Abdul Pata (37) of Nilam Bazar area of neighbouring Assam from a passenger vehicle, which was coming towards Dharmanagar from Karimganj district of Assam. Police recovered a total of 10, 000 Yaba tablets, worth Rs. 50 lakh under his possession.
Accused smuggler, Abdul Pasa was produced before a local court on Thursday under NDPS Act case with police remand appeals for interrogation and court sent him to jail custody.
