Widespread tension erupted in Uttarpara under the South Bhuratali Gram Panchayat, within the jurisdiction of the Manubazar police station in South Tripura's Sabroom subdivision, following allegations of sexual assault against a 14-year-old specially-abled tribal girl. Acting on the complaint, police detained a local resident aged over 50.

According to the victim's family, the incident occurred on Independence Day, August 15, before noon. Taking advantage of the empty house, the accused took the minor inside a room and sexually assaulted her. The matter sparked outrage among family members and local women once it came to light.

With the assistance of the village head (Pradhan) and local women, the victim was taken to the Sabroom Subdivisional Hospital for necessary medical examinations. Following this, the family approached the police for legal action.

After receiving the complaint, Manubazar police station detained the accused, identified as Jaharlal Debnath, from his residence and brought him to the station. Police have launched an investigation into the matter, stating that further legal proceedings will depend on the findings and the medical examination report.
