A mother attempts suicide by jumping into river with one year old baby in Bishalgarh

In a bizarre incident, a mother with her one year old child tried to commit suicide by jumping in the Bijay river of Bishalgarh to get rid off from continuous torture from her husband and luckily both mother and her child were rescued by locals on Sunday.

Sources said that the mother and her child narrowly escaped from the tragic incident. Unable to bear her husband's abuse and torture, a mother, Tanzina Akhtar of Ashabari area of Boxanagar sunder Sepahijala district attempted suicide by jumping into the Bijoy River from a bridge at Bishalgarh with her one year-old baby. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon in Bishalgarh. Passersby at the scene managed to rescue both the mother and her child in time, preventing a tragedy and panic spread throughout the area in moments after mother tried again to commit suicide.

Later, her husband arrived at the spot; the enraged crowd caught and handed over to Bishalgarh police station.

According to reports, the woman—Tanzina Akhtar, a housewife from Ashabari area of Boxnagar—was regularly subjected to both physical and mental torture by her husband, Sabuj Miah, who had also married two other women also. Unable to tolerate the torture any longer, Tanzina Akhtar  left her husband house a week ago and moving here and there with her one year old child.

Speaking with media persons after the incident, she narrating her agony and pain, was unable to ffed her child and seeing no other option, tried  commit suicide on Sunday afternoon by jumping from the bridge near Bishalgarh market into the Bijoy River.

The incident sparked intense tension throughout the marketplace. Later, Saikat Saha, the secretary of the Rautkhola Youth Association in Bishalgarh, arranged milk for the infant, ensuring the baby’s well-being.

Police sources said that they have arranged shelter in a government run Home for both mother and her child.
