The state administration on Tuesday reviewed preparations for the great and colourful immersion carnival festival “Mayer Goman” scheduled to be held on October 23 near Maharani Tulsibati Girls’ Higher Secondary School (Jackson Gate) in Agartala, with officials focusing on security, traffic management and crowd control to ensure the event is conducted smoothly.

A high-level preparatory meeting was held at the school campus, where various aspects of the programme, including administrative arrangements, traffic regulation and public safety measures, were discussed in detail.

The meeting was attended by the Secretary of Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA) department Kiran Gitte, Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Dipak Majumder, ICA Director Bimbisar Bhattacharjee, senior officials from various government departments, representatives of the police administration and other dignitaries.

Officials stressed the need to ensure that devotees and visitors can participate in the event without inconvenience. Discussions centred on measures for crowd management, deployment of security personnel and maintaining smooth vehicular movement across the city during the programme.

Special emphasis was laid on the installation of barricades at key locations, regulation of pedestrian movement and the implementation of traffic diversion plans. The role of the police in maintaining law and order and ensuring public safety throughout the event was also reviewed.

The meeting also discussed arrangements for the entire procession from the ‘Mayer Goman’ ceremony to the Dashami Ghat for idol immersion. Authorities reviewed plans for managing large crowds at the immersion site, strengthening security and ensuring seamless coordination among all departments.

Officials underlined the importance of close coordination between the district administration, Agartala Municipal Corporation and the police to ensure the successful conduct of the programme. According to officials, advance planning is aimed at addressing any potential challenges and ensuring the convenience and safety of the public.

The annual ‘Mayer Goman’ ceremony draws significant public participation, and the administration has initiated comprehensive preparations to ensure that both the procession and the idol immersion ceremonies are conducted peacefully and in an orderly manner.
