After operation ‘Sindoor’, infiltration again starts, 5 Bangladeshi with trafficker arrested from Agartala Railway station

After a brief halt, the infiltration from the unrest that hit Bangladesh into Tripura continued and five more citizens of the neighbouring country along with an Indian human trafficker were arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP) from Agartala Railway station in the last 48-hours.

Infiltration into the Northeastern states especially in Tripura and Assam has continued for Bangladesh and in the last few months hundreds of Bangladesh nationals along with Rohingyas were arrested by security forces from different borders of the state.

After a brief half, especially after operation ‘Sindoor’,  the infiltration was almost stopped due tight security in the entire stretch of border, but during the past two days five more Bangladeshi along with a tout were arrested .

Giving details, officer-in-charge (OC) of GRP station of Agartala Railway station, Tapash Das said that based on intelligence inputs in a joint operation conducted by GRP, Railway Protection Force (RPF) and BSF, two person including a Bangladeshi and an Indian tout were arrested, who were attempting to cross the state by train on Saturday.

He said that Bangladeshi national, identified as Shyamal Chandra Barman (23) from Gaibandha district of Bangladesh, illegally entered Indian and was accompanied by Abhijit Sarkar alias Prem (32),  a resident of Trishabari area of Teliamura under Khowai district of Tripura.

Das said that during interrogation, they revealed their travel plan and wanted to go to Kolkata by train.

In another incident, four illegal Bangladeshi immigrants were arrested from Agartala railway station before boarding a long-distance train towards Kolkata on Sunday morning.

Das said that arrested Bangladesh nationals were identified as Mohammad Billal (47) of Bagerhat district of Bangladesh and  Salma Begam (38) of the same district along with two children, Md Naeem (8) and Mohammad Ali (6).

He said that based on intelligence inputs, the GRP, RPF and Intelligence wing  apprehended them in a joint operation. During interrogation, they said that they entered India two days back without any valid document, and had plans to travel to Kolkata, said Das and added that smartphones, Indian currency notes and Bangladeshi voter ID cards were recovered from the possession of the accused Bangladeshi citizens.

An investigation is underway to identify those who helped them enter India, Das said and added that police have registered a specific case under sections of the Passports Act, the Foreigners Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and all arrested foreigners were produced before a local court on Sunday for further legal proceedings. He also said that all those involved in these cases will be arrested and police launch another operation to arrest human traffickers involved with infiltration of Bangladeshi into Tripura’s territory.
