The state conference of the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) will be held at Agartala Town Hall from September 1 to 3 and a mass public rally will also be organized at Vivekananda ground (Astable Maidan) in Agartala on September 1.
Addressing a press conference at the Krishak Bhavan in Agartala, AIKS state president Aghore Debbarma, secretary Pabitra Kar and joint secretary Ratan Das elaborated on the preparations and various issues surrounding the upcoming conference.
The leaders said discussions at the three-day conference will focus on various problems faced by farmers and the agricultural sector in Tripura, the prevailing situation in the country and other relevant political issues.
Preparations are underway from all quarters to make the conference a success. The conference will also deliberate on strengthening the farmers’ organization and chalking out strategies to intensify movements in the coming days in support of the interests and demands of farmers in Tripura and across the country.
Speaking on the condition of farmers, the leaders alleged that although the BJP government led by Narendra Modi made several promises concerning agriculture and farmers after coming to power in 2014, many of the problems faced by farmers have still not been fully resolved. They stressed the need for an effective system to address farmers’ hardships and ensure that no farmer is forced to take the extreme step of suicide.
They also highlighted the importance of the agricultural sector in the overall development of the country. According to them, significant progress has been witnessed in several agriculture-related sectors, with production of fish, milk and dairy products, as well as various agricultural commodities, steadily increasing.
The growth of agro-based industries and factories, they said, has not only contributed to improving the economic condition of farmers but has also created greater employment opportunities.
The leaders further said that new initiatives are being undertaken in the interests of farmers, with emphasis on increasing agricultural production, extending support to farmers and expanding their income and employment opportunities. They expressed hope that further measures would be taken in the coming days to ensure the overall development of farmers and strengthen the agricultural sector.
