AMC and Traffic police launched joint enforcement drive against traffic congestions

In order to reduce massive traffic congestion across Agartala city, the Traffic police in association with the enforcement team of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) continue their joint enforcement drive in different parts of the city.
On Wednesday, a large team of Traffic police and AMC led by SP(Traffic) Manik Das conducted a massive enforcement drive in Central road and Netaji road areas of MG Bazar to clear illegal encroachment in footpaths and illegal parking.
The team removed all encroachment from footpaths and illegal parking, which led to reduction of traffic congestions in both these roads.
Later, speaking with media persons, SP(Traffic) Manik Das said that despite repeated appeals from AMC and other law enforcement agencies to clear the footpath, the majority of the traders illegally occupied both sides of the footpath in major roads of the city, which led to traffic jams in main roads.
He said that footpaths are only for pedestrians, not for illegal encroachment by sections of traders, who are often showcased their products in the open footpath.
Das said that illegal parking on the road is one of the major causes of traffic congestion in the city. “ The department's aim is not to collect fine and impose penalties to law breakers, but we want to aware the people that they should only park their vehicles and motorbikes only in designated marking places,” said Das and once again appeals to the city dwellers to maintain traffic laws for smooth traffic movements.
Das also said that the joint enforcement drive by Traffic police and AMC will continue across the city and will take stringent action if they find repeated violations.
