Amidst strong criticism over refusal to register a gang rape case at Belonia Women police station under South Tripura district, police finally registered the case and arrested two accused persons on Tuesday.

It may be recalled here that in a gross denial case from given basic protection and justice to a gang rape victim, the women police station of Belonia under South Tripura district refused to register a gang rape case and without any medical test, police suggested the victim lady, an indigenous woman  and her husband to before their complaint before Gram Panchayat.

The rape victim and her husband then highlighted the brutality before the local media and after gross condemnation over inhuman act by police personnel of Belonia women police station and over instruction of senior police official, the police station registered the case and accused Mithun Tripura (35) and Joy Tripura (17).

Both gang rape accused were produced before a local court on Tuesday  and court sent Mithun Tripura into jail custody up to October 13 next and sent another accused to Juvenile Home at Udaipur up to October 21st next.

On October 4th last, the victim lady was busy with rubber tapping works at the rubber garden of one Mridul Nag at Paikhola area under Belonia subdivision, then two miscreants identified as Joy Tripura and Mithun Tripura raped her in the rubber garden, located at an interior place.

Later, the victim lady somehow rescued herself from clutches of miscreants and raised her alarm. Within a few minutes, her husband and other garden workers rushed to the spot. Then, she with tears in eyes narrated the brutal incident committed on her by two miscreants.

They immediately rushed to the Belonia women police station, but, surprisingly, on-duty police officers refused to register her complaint, even though they did not conduct the necessary medical test. Accused police officers suggested the victim lady and her husband should lodge their complaint before the local Gram Panchayat and mutually resolve the issue, said Husband of the victim lady.

Meanwhile, OC of Belonia women police station, Swapna Bhowmik said that they have registered the case on October 5th last and started an investigation. She said that police have arrested both accused persons and visited the incident spot at Paikhola.
