Arms, contraband cough syrups recovered from Sonamura, no arrests
In two separate raids, the Sepahijala district police on Wednesday seized huge quantities of contraband cough syrups and have also recovered one sophisticated country made revolver with two live rounds. But, there are no arrests in these connections.
Giving details of both raids, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sonamura police station, Jayanta Kumar Dey said that based on secret information, police forces in the early hours of Wednesday raided the house of one smuggler, Abul Kalam at Bajimura area.
During a search operation at his house, police recovered a country made sophisticated pistol with two live rounds under clay made ovan at the courtyard of that house, said OC and added that sensing police raid, accused Abul Kalam managed to escape from the spot. Police has also registered a specific Arms case against Abul Kalam and launched a search operation to arrest him.
In another raid at the bordering Kulubari area of Sonamura subdivision at the house of one drug smuggler on Wednesday, police recovered 1670 bottles of contraband cough syrup, Ex-Caugh in different secret areas of the house of smuggler Anowar Hussain, said Dey.
While, in this raid also police were unable to arrest accused drug smuggler and has registered a specific case under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
