Assam Rifles and DRI joint operation nets Rs 16 Cr worth of Yaba tablets; one arrested in Tripura
In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Assam Rifles, in coordination with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), seized a large consignment of Yaba tablets worth approximately ₹16 crore and apprehended one drug smuggler in Teliamura on April 11 (Saturday).
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, security forces intercepted a Mahindra pick-up vehicle (registration number TR01AY-1674) during the joint operation. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of around 2 lakh Yaba tablets.
The arrested smuggler has been identified as Raju Deb (44), a resident of Jalilpur in West Tripura district.
Following the seizure, the accused, along with the recovered contraband and the vehicle, has been handed over to the DRI for further investigation and legal proceedings.
Officials stated that the successful operation highlights the continued commitment of the Assam Rifles, in close coordination with the DRI, to curb narcotics trafficking and ensure security in the region.
